Greenville
Area
Leisure
Services
Association
The
Greenville
Area Leisure Services Association (GALSA) was formed in 1948
by resolution by the Greenville Borough, the Greenville Area
School District and the Northern Mercer County United Way.
For 58 years GALSA has been the provider of recreational
programming, activities and special events for the
Greenville community and its service area while maintaining
and operating the Borough’s park system.
GALSA is
governed by a nine-member Board of Directors which consists
of three (3) members of the Greenville Borough Council and
six (6) members at large. The Board recommends changes
and/or improvements to GALSA’s overall operation while
working closely with its Executive Director in developing
facilities, strategy, and long-range planning.
GALSA publishes
a seasonal brochure that outlines recreational opportunities
throughout the year. All of GALSA’s programs are available
to children and youth through senior citizens for a nominal
registration fee. The brochure is given to the Jamestown,
Commodore Perry, Reynolds, Greenville, and St. Michael’s
school districts and is available at a number of local
businesses in the Northern Mercer County Area.
Some of GALSA’s
special events include its annual Kids Carnival, a 5K/2-Mile
Walk, an Olympic and Sprint Trial Triathlon, the NFL Punt,
Pass, and Kick Competition, Annual Craft Show, Oktoberfest,
Daddy/Daughter Date Night, and the famous ‘Go Jump in the
Lake Incident’ fundraiser in February.
GALSA also has a
number affiliate sports and leisure programs that it
manages. They are the Greenville Area Soccer Association (GASA),
Greenville Area Ladies Softball (GALS), the Greater
Greenville Men’s Softball Association (GGMSA), the GMSP, The
Erie Extension Canal Museum (CM), Greenville Area Community
Theater (GACT), and Young People’s Theater (YPT).
